Mixing
From raw multitracks to a coherent mix: levels, EQ, compression and space — tuned for streaming and download, with 2 revision rounds included.

Mixing is where separate recordings become a song. At Obligerpath in Amsterdam we work in a treated control room with an analog and digital chain, reference monitors and an engineer who respects your arrangement instead of forcing a generic preset.
You supply stems or a structured session export; we balance drums, bass, instruments and vocals, resolve frequency clashes and shape dynamics to fit the genre. The service targets artists and producers who tracked at home, elsewhere or partly with us and want an experienced, neutral mix before mastering. How to deliver files is covered in delivering stems for a mix.
Process
- 01
Brief
Send stems, tempo, references and any rough mix. We confirm scope, price and timeline within 2 business days and set the 30% deposit under our terms.
- 02
Import
We check sync, naming and headroom. Missing metadata or clipping is flagged with you first — not fixed silently.
- 03
Mix
Balance, pan, EQ, compression, sends and automation. First mix version within the agreed turnaround — usually a few business days after complete delivery.
- 04
Revisions
You get 2 revision rounds with consolidated notes. Then we deliver the final mix as WAV; stem bounce on request.
What our mixing includes and excludes
Mixing means combining your supplied tracks into one stereo file (or agreed stem set) ready for mastering. We tighten timing subtly where needed, clean rumble, make space for the lead vocal and place FX sends logically.
Not part of standard mixing: re-recording vocals, drum replacement, heavy podcast editing, producing an instrumental from scratch, or mastering — the last is mastering as its own line. Out-of-scope production is quoted separately via contact.
Who it is for
Mixing fits:
- Singer-songwriters with home-studio captures
- Producers and rappers with beats plus self-recorded vocals
- Bands tracked in our live room or another studio
- Labels and managers wanting one Amsterdam contact
Only vocals from our vocal booth and an instrumental made elsewhere? Mixing still works — provided stems are exported cleanly.
Delivery and technical requirements
Follow the stem delivery guide where you can: WAV 24-bit, one sample rate per project (48 kHz unless agreed otherwise), all tracks from the same start point, no limiter on individual stems. Name tracks clearly (Kick, Snare_Top, Bass_DI, VOX_Lead).
Send via file-transfer link or cloud folder; we confirm when everything reads correctly. Missing tracks or wrong bounces delay the start — we report that immediately rather than guessing.
Workflow in the control room
Sanne de Vries and mix engineer Lars van den Berg share projects; on larger EPs and albums we assign one primary mixer. We listen on calibrated monitors in a treated room, using analog inserts when they add something musical.
You do not need to be on site: feedback goes by email or call. Want an attended mix session? Ask about availability and an hourly rate separate from per-track mixing — outside the standard price list and quoted individually.
Revisions and communication
Each mix project includes 2 revision rounds. Bundle change requests per round (for example: chorus vocal +2 dB, drier drums, less mid on bass) so we stay efficient. Extra rounds beyond the included two are billable by agreement.
We respond to mix questions within 2 business days during normal hours Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 11–18. Rush delivery is sometimes possible for a surcharge when the calendar allows — never promised without checking dates.
Deliverables and formats
Standard delivery: stereo mixdown WAV 24-bit at project sample rate, headroom suited to mastering (typically a few dB below 0 dFS peak). On request: instrumental mix, TV mix without lead vocal, or dry stems after the mix — discuss in the brief.
Files stay on our servers for 12 months; download within that window and keep local copies. After that we delete working files per privacy policy and internal retention.

Mastering and related services
A mix is done when you are happy with balance and emotion; mastering sets overall loudness for platforms. Mastering here can use the same project folder; read LUFS and mastering if you want to check what you hand off.

Location and reachability
Mixing is mainly off-site: you do not need to visit Overtoom to deliver files. FAQ
How fast is the first mix?
After complete, correct stems we usually deliver a first version within a few business days. EPs and albums get a timeline by email; busy release periods are flagged upfront.
Can I send my DAW session instead of stems?
Stems are preferred: not everyone shares the same plugins. A session can help as reference, but mixing starts from WAV exports per the stem guide.
What counts as one revision round?
One bundled list of changes after your home listening pass. Scattered messages over days are grouped where possible, but two clear rounds are the included maximum.
Do you mix podcasts?
Podcast editing sits under podcast recording and prep, not music mixing per track. Music stings inside a show can be a separate track.
Is mastering in the same package?
No. Mastering is a separate service with its own rates. We do deliver mixes that are mastering-ready.
